Design Engineer

Job Description

An increasing demand for our ever expanding portfolio has created an exciting position for a Design Engineer to join our current ABT Loadmac engineering team.  The successful candidate will have the opportunity to design and develop products for some of the world’s largest OEMs, taking the product from initial concept right through to the prototype stage.

Job Specification

1.      Work individually, as part of a team, or the product champion to take a project from concept through to production;

2.      Work closely with internal and external customers to establish the applications requirements and produce a clearly defined specification;

3.      Produce and check schemes, layouts, calculations, assemblies and detail drawings using CAD (Solidworks);

4.      Have an understanding of total product cost, whilst maintaining a focus on cost effective solutions for new products;

5.      Introduce new designs into manufacture. This will include the organisation of BOM’s, processes, tooling and manufacturing documentation;

6.      Work with shop floor personnel during the manufacture of prototypes, solving production problems and analysis/improvement of processes and tooling;

7.      Value analyse designs and products to ensure the most cost effective use of materials and processes;

8.      Liaise with customers, suppliers, purchasing and production personnel to maximise quality and minimise both waste and cost;

9.      Organise and maintain the standards, documentation and literature necessary to successfully introduce/maintain a product;

10.   Ensure that work/projects meet the agreed specification and are completed on time and within the cost estimates;

11.   Supervise relevant personnel.

Primarily based at our manufacturing plant in Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire.  Postcode: HR9 7BW.

Skills

1.      Significant experience in fabrication and assembly environments;

2.      Educated to HND/Degree level in a relevant design/engineering discipline;

3.      Have a good understanding of steel processing operations, welding and the assembly of complex products;

4.      Knowledge of engine, hydraulic and wiring systems.
